Jamonte Johnson Obituary, Death: 22-Year-Old Cleveland Man Killed in Late-Night Shooting; Suspect Charged
The community of Cleveland is mourning the tragic loss of 22-year-old Jamonte Johnson, who was fatally shot in a late-night incident that has left residents shaken.
According to the Cleveland Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 10:45 p.m. Thursday near South Chrisman Avenue and White Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound and unresponsive at the scene.
Emergency responders from Pafford Ambulance Service attempted to provide aid, but Johnson was pronounced dead at the location.
Following an active investigation, authorities arrested 22-year-old Chadrick Smith in connection with the shooting. He faces multiple felony charges, including murder, tampering with evidence, and discharging a firearm within city limits. Smith is currently being held at the Bolivar County Regional Correctional Facility pending his initial court appearance.
Police Chief Dudley Tribble confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing, noting that additional arrests may be made as detectives continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
